Name the pitch
Guitar pitch detector
The tuner wants you on E, A, D, G or B. This page does not. It reports the fundamental it hears, the nearest equal-tempered note, the cents from that note, and whether the last few frames stayed put. Silence and noise show no note.
What stability means
A single number can look precise while the pitch is wandering. The stability line compares the highest and lowest frequencies in the recent frames. A steady open string usually sits inside a couple of hertz. A bend, a fade, or two strings will open that gap. It is a description of the signal, not a grade for your hands.
One note, on purpose
The detector is monophonic. A strum is several fundamentals at once and the estimate will jump. Mute everything except the note you care about. If you want to see overtones rather than name a pitch, use the frequency analyzer. If you want a target for an open string, use the tuner.
Questions
- Does a blank screen mean the guitar is quiet?
- It means this frame was too quiet or too messy to trust. Pluck again, closer to the mic, and give the note a moment to ring.
- Will it store my takes?
- No. The readout lives in the page. Nothing is uploaded.
