Fifteen frets
Fretboard trainer
Name mode lights one place: a string and a fret, nut included. You pick the note name from twelve buttons. Find mode names a pitch class and you click a place that sounds that class. There is more than one right fret. An A on the open fifth string is the same class as the A at the second fret of the third string. The score counts hits and misses until you leave the page.
How the neck is tuned in the picture
Low E at the bottom, as if the guitar were on your lap, nut on the left. Open MIDI numbers are the usual ones: E2, A2, D3, G3, B3, E4. The B string is the odd one — four frets from G, not five — and that is where most wrong answers live. The flat toggle only changes spelling, not the pitches. C# and Db are the same button’s two names.
No timer, no account
Nothing is stored in the browser. A perfect score refreshed is zero again. That is deliberate. Use the scale chart if you want the whole shape of a key instead of one note at a time, and the metronome if the notes are solid and the time is not.
Questions
- Does it accept any octave?
- In find mode, yes: any string and fret of that pitch class through fret 15. In name mode there is one lit spot and one name, octave included in the sense that the spot is specific, but you only answer the letter.
- What if I miss?
- The page says so and stays on the question. It does not move the dot to punish you.
