A pitch you can hold

Guitar tone generator

When the fan is louder than the guitar, the microphone tuner struggles. This page plays a steady tone instead. Choose a waveform, set a frequency, or jump to E2, A2, D3, G3, B3 or E4. Leave it running and match the string by ear. It is a reference oscillator, not a recorded amp and not a polyphonic keyboard.

Waveforms, briefly

Sine is the cleanest match for tuning by ear. Triangle is a little brighter. Square and saw have strong overtones, which can help you hear the pitch in a noisy room and can also trick you into matching a harmonic. If the match feels sour, switch back to sine. The short play button speaks once; the start button holds the note until you stop it.

What it will not do

It will not bend like a string, follow your vibrato, or tell you the cents. Pair it with the tuner when the room quiets down. The pitch detector is the reverse tool: it listens, this one speaks.

Questions

Is the frequency exact?
It is the number you set, sent to the audio clock. 110 Hz is A2 at A4 = 440. The page does not retune your guitar by itself.
Can I hear two notes?
Not together. Set one frequency. For an interval, play one, then the other, and sing or fret the difference.
